VBFS , designed with that "safe angle" in mind

The latest in the "Fabulously Freakish" Venice Beach Freak Show is still using a compound grid (but reconfiguired)  and is targeting "local adults that would not ordinarly go to the freakshow".
This current design is using the illustrations as the attraction with text inclosed in boxes giving structure and order for our target adults  that do not like to "go outside the box".  The pastell colors used, offer a "safe, non-threatening feeling for our target audience.

The illustration of the "turtle" actually creates the illusion of breaking through it's sphere and enters those "safe" structured text boxes.  With the text in the right hand box, it describs the turtle "sunning itself on California beaches (doesen't everyone want that) and an inviting "Welcome" in yellow text.

  1. Yippee! You got the images posted! Glad it worked out. Your illustrations are great. I REALLY like the turtle. The colors and texture gives a nice feel to the poster.

  2. Always great to see your handing in work – this is where the critique process starts. Kevin this time you went totally off the rails. Your have to not get caught up in your head. You have so much talent I just want to see you really use your visual skill to create some great work. Your have 5 weeks to finish off this assignment so that it works. I know this is time consuming. But if you look at the old side show posters and use your drawings that you are so good at than you will win the game. Go back to getting an image of a banner off the web and tracing it. Get your animal pictures and trace them in illustrator. Get your test in the banner in illustrator and then show me your roughs. You really did a great job with the first assignment – so each week put and hour or 2 in and lets get this design up to you usual standard. Think gradients to show depth.
